Energetic medicine is formed on the concept that an invisible "life force energy" flows through the body and is partly responsible for our happiness and good health. Life energy is a concept that appears in 97 different cultures around the world, each with their own name. Indian yogis have referred to this as prana for more than 5000 years, while Chinese philosophy calls this same energy Chi and Japanese call it Ki.
Of course there are scientific reasons to explain how the body works, but what lies behind the physiology? The answer is energy. Ancient schools of healing throughout the world describe a human energy system consisting of acupuncture meridians, charkas, nadis and an etheric body.
We know our bodies are composed of tiny particles known as atoms, which in turn consist of even smaller particles known as electrons, neutrons and protons. All matter within the universe, including our body is composed of different arrangements of these atomic and subatomic particles. As Albert Einstein has shown in his famous equation E=MC2, matter is merely an expression of energy. So what appears to be a solid human body is really just slow moving energy.
Energetic medicine allows us to tap into this universal life force to rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit.
How does energy medicine fit in to the therapies used to heal the body and mind? Various healing techniques work at the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental levels with the understanding that what happens to one of these levels affects the entire being.
In most energy healing modalities energy flows through the practitioners hands attempting to cover the chakras and main organs of the body. Different techniques are used to restore balance to the body through contact, distance and therapeutic touch.
